The whole
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K)
concept of poking fun at bad movies is rehashed by The Film Crew on
this straight-to-DVD release. The problem with this format though is that
sometimes a movie comes along that it is so bad that not even the combined
comic talents of Bill Corbett, Kevin Murphy, and Michael J. Nelson can save
it from being a dismal experience.
This is unfortunately the
case with Killers from Space, a movie so drearily bad that it sucks
the very energy from the former MST3K
stars. Towards the end the jokes simply seem to dry out as the film slowly
crawls to its incomprehensible finale.
The title is of course a
misnomer: even though there are visitors from outer space in the movie
(goofily they have painted ping-pong balls for eyes!), we never see them
actually kill anyone. In this B&W 1950s paranoia piece Peter Graves is an
atomic scientist who is kidnapped and anally probed by said aliens. Just
kidding about the anal probes, but some anal probing would have saved
Killers from Space from being a dreadfully dull movie that not even the
former MST3K crew can save from being a
time waster.
