Harvey Birdman, Attorney At Law is an animated 2000 comedy show made
for the Cartoon Network's late night Adult Swim slot. It pokes fun at an old
1967 Hanna-Barbera superhero kids cartoon series titled Birdman and the
Galaxy Trio. In Harvey Birdman our titular hero (a rip-off
of Daces Hawkman

when one thinks about it) gives up on the superhero business to become, yes,
a lawyer. The rest of the cast is filled by supporting characters from the
original Birdman show (the Galaxy Trio doesn't feature as they and Birdman
never appeared together in the original show).
Having seen the original TV show is not a prerequisite to enjoying Harvey
Birdman, Attorney At Law, but having a grasp of comic book superhero
genre and character clichés and convention does help. Like similar Adult
Swim shows such as Sealab 2021 the show is
not aimed at kids (hence its late night slot), but rather ironic self-aware
hipsters probably in their early- to late-thirties. Along the way it also
pokes fun at other pop cultural icons as Harvey Birdman takes on cases
involving custody of Jonny Quest, a copyright infringement case between the
Chan Clan and Jabberjaw, and Fred Flintstone's possible mob connections.
Not always as funny as one would imagine or want it to be though, there are
worse ways to waste one's time than watching Harvey Birdman, Attorney At
Law.
