It's
Mystery Science Theater 3000-
the TV show that made fun of bad movies. But you probably already knew
that and I'll be danged if I'm going to kick off yet
another review with a description of the now defunct Sci-Fi Channel /
Comedy Channel show!
So let me just get to the point: I was slightly disappointed by this
particular box set. It contains Teenagers
from Outer Space, Attack of the Giant
Leeches, Gunslinger and a new collection of shorts. The
collection of shorts (always funny) is welcome, but I found the other
episodes here to be rather average. There are far funnier episodes out
there (where's Prince of Space damn it!?). On Gunslinger (a
Roger Corman-produced Western -
believe it or not!) the sound of the movie itself was so poor that I had a
difficult time making out the dialogue.
MST3K faithfuls would want to buy this set if they hadn't done so
already, but newbies would be better served checking out
Eegah or Mystery
Science Theater 3000 ? the Movie (even though that one is unacceptably
expensive on DVD) instead.
THE DISCS: As is usual for Mystery Science Theater 3000
discs there are few extras. No uncut versions of the movies either.
WORTH IT? If you're already a fan, yes. Otherwise, check out the
other Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes mentioned here.
RECOMMENDATION:Save your bucks for
Volume 7 which will hopefully
contain Prince of Space-
anyone from Rhino out there listening?
