Teen
Titans – the group of youthful B-list superheroes led by Batman’s
sidekick, Robin – may not be Warner Animation’s best show, but that doesn’t
mean that it’s bad by any means.
This fifth season, which is currently airing on the
Cartoon Network, is unfortunately also the show’s last. It clearly
illustrates that kids have it so much better nowadays than their elders who
had to slog through the likes of Super
Friends when it comes to Saturday morning cartoons.
Teen Titans is colorful, vibrant and fast-paced. It
also boasts one of the catchiest TV theme songs in living memory – you’ll
hate yourself for singing along!
Older comics fans will be intrigued to find out that the
Titans in this season teams up with a somewhat modified version of pre-Grant
Morrison era Doom Patrol. The villains are of course the Brotherhood
of Evil, who will be also well-known to Doom Patrol readers. The
animation is bright, colorful with bold lines and holds up with the high
standard set by Warner Bros. Animation.
Sure, it isn’t as good as previous DC Comics adaptations
such as Justice League or Bruce Timm’s
Superman, but small kids will love it and dads will find that they can
actually watch it with their offspring.
