Our reviews of Young Justice on DVD
practically write themselves, so here we go:
a.) Young Justice is a revisionist Cartoon Network series take on the
Teen Titans superhero team featuring Robin and a bunch of teenaged
sidekicks who come across as mini-me versions of heroes like Superman,
Martian Manhunter, Flash, Green Arrow and others.
b.) It is entertaining and witty. It should appeal to both young viewers and
their dads. Animation is pretty decent. The series also seems to capture
teenage awkwardness without becoming overbearing.
c.) This disc collects four episodes from season 1. Warners is bringing them
out at snail’s pace for some reason and has yet to bring out a decent full
season box set.
d.) Standout episode here is one in which two teen superheroes go undercover
at a prison designed to keep supervillains captive so as to prevent a
possible breakout. Other episodes are good too and comic fans should check
them out.
d.) Sounds good. Should you buy it? No, not unless you have already bought
other discs in this series. In April the studio will be bringing out volumes
1, 2 and 3 in one set for a mere $13.99. This disc alone costs $11.99.
(Prices quoted are Amazon.com discount prices at the time of writing.) You
do the math. Wait for this collection or for a decent full season box set
one day.
